چکیده

This paper investigates point-to-point information transmission over a wideband slow-fading channel, modeled as an (asymptotically) large number of independent identically distributed parallel channels, with the random channel fading realizations remaining constant over the entire coding block. On the one hand, in the wideband limit the minimum achievable energy per nat required for reliable transmission, as a random variable, converges in probability to certain deterministic quantity. On the other hand, the exponential decay rate of the outage probability, termed as the wideband outage exponent, characterizes how the number of parallel channels, i.e., the “bandwidth”, should asymptotically scale in order to achieve a targeted outage probability at a targeted energy per nat. We examine two scenarios: when the transmitter has no channel state information and adopts uniform transmit power allocation among parallel channels; and when the transmitter is endowed with an one-bit channel state feedback for each parallel channel and accordingly allocates its transmit power. For both scenarios, we evaluate the wideband minimum energy per nat and the wideband outage exponent, and discuss their implication for system performance.

Outage Probability Bound and Diversity Gain for Ultra-Wideband Multiple-Access Relay Channels with Correlated Noises

In this paper, Ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple access relay channel with correlated noises at the relay and receiver is investigated. We obtain outer and inner bounds for the IEEE 802.15.3a UWB multiple access relay channel, and also, a diversity gain bound. Finally, we evaluate some results numerically and show that noise correlation coefficients play important role in determining relay position.

Outage behavior of slow fading channels with power control using noisy quantized CSIT

The topic of this study is the outage behavior of multiple-antenna slow fading channels with quantized feedback and partial power control. A fixed-rate communication system is considered. It is known from the literature that with error-free feedback, the outage-optimal quantizer for power control has a circular structure. Moreover, the diversity gain of the system increases polynomially with th...

Fe b 20 06 Outage Capacity of the Fading Relay Channel in the Low SNR Regime

In slow fading scenarios, cooperation between nodes can increase the amount of diversity for communication. We study the performance limit in such scenarios by analyzing the outage capacity of slow fading relay channels. Our focus is on the low SNR and low outage probability regime, where the adverse impact of fading is greatest but so are the potential gains from cooperation. We showed that wh...

Improved Iterative Detection and Achieved Throughputs of Multiband OFDM Systems Under Imperfect Channel Estimation

Assuming imperfect channel estimation, we propose an improved detector for ultra wideband (UWB) systems employing multiband orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MB-OFDM). By adopting a Bayesian approach involving the statistics of the channel estimation errors, we formulate an improved maximum-likelihood (ML) detection metric taking into account the characteristics of the channel estimat...

An interleaver design for polar codes over slow fading channels

We consider the problem of using polar codes over slow fading wireless channels. For design, we focus on a parallel slow fading channel with 2 blocks, and polar codes with rate ≤ 1 2 . Motivated by Arikan’s systematic polar code construction, we propose an interleaver design for a general polar code. The interleaver comprises of using the bit reversal of the order of polarized bit channels. Thi...
